Charging Station of the Day: Stevens Pass Resort, Washington

February 1st, 2012

  • Who: Stevens Pass Resort, Washington
  • Where: Summit Stevens Pass, US Highway 2, Steven’s Pass, Washington 98288, United States 24-7 access, 365 days/year, near plaza stairs in Lot A
  • What makes it cool? It’s mounted on a chairlift!  Stevens Pass Resort is the owner of the nation’s first mountain-pass electric vehicle charging stations. (Also, being a ski resort it is literally cool as well). The resort’s two new chargers along U.S. Highway 2 in Washington’s central Cascade Mountain Range are only public units located at a ski resort anywhere in the Western U.S.  Nearly empty batteries will require four-to-six to fully charge– perfect for a day of skiing or mountain biking at the resort or hiking from the trailhead of the Pacific Crest Trail.  The Stevens Pass stations are available to the public 24 hours a day, every day of the year with restrooms nearby and reliable cell phone coverage.

Why does Stevens Pass Resort love their stations?  “Our company-wide focus on sustainability includes many progressive programs, and we are especially pleased to remain on the cutting edge by installing these EV charging stations at the resort,” said Ross Freeman, Environment & Sustainability Manager for Stevens Pass. “We strive to lead the way among Pacific Northwest resorts in reducing our carbon footprint – supporting the use of electric vehicles puts us one more step ahead of the competition.”

January 31st, 2012

  • Who: Steve L. who drives a 2011 Nissan LEAF and Kenneth A.
  • Where? 833 Mission St, San Francisco, California 94103, United States Public Parking Level 1 – Parking Rates Apply but free charging.  Next to Moscone Center West.
  • What makes it cool?   We love EV charging traffic jams.  According to Steve, ‘“I needed to charge at least a little in SF in order to make it back home to Sunnyvale after visiting the MacWorld Expo. The cool thing is that there are three dual-port ChargePoint chargers at this location. In addition, when we arrived we saw a Nissan LEAF, a Chevy Volt, and a brand new Fisker Karma. I pulled into an open space and was able to use a Level 1 port to charge even though the Level 2 ports were all in use.”’

Charging Station of Day: Stevenson, Washingon Serenity Now

January 27th, 2012

  • Who: The City of Stevenson, the Stevenson Business Association (SBA), and the Port of Skamania County partnered to bring the first Level II Electric Vehicle Charging Station to Washington’s side of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.  This photo was sent to us by Coulomb distributor Charge Northwest.
  • Where? 152 SW Cascade Avenue, Stevenson, Washington 98648, United States. Across railroad tracks toward river; near the kinetic art sculpture (seen in the left of the photo).
  • What makes it cool?  This might be the most peaceful location for a charging station we have ever seen. This station is especially important because it will allow people to reach the area from the I-5 corridor  (50 miles west) and recharge for their return trip.  The station is located at Teo Park along the Columbia River Waterfront in the City of Stevenson, adjacent to shops, restaurants, spas, and art galleries.

This ChargePoint station is the result of cooperation among local business leaders and local government.  SBA President Scott Anderson stated that “As a small town, Stevenson has been forward thinking and on the cutting edge, such as being one of the first cities to offer city-wide free WiFi access, and now the EV Charging Station.”  Moli Thomas, of MST Consulting, who managed the project, said “Stevenson is a wonderful, eco-friendly tourism destination.  This charger is another way that we can help support healthy tourism activity in the area.  Our goal is to bring people out to one of the most beautiful places on the planet and let them recharge while taking advantage of all that Stevenson has to offer.”
